21/12/23

HyeConnect’s recent article on the White Paper “Armenians as a Spatial and Digital Nation” contributes to the study’s question of thinking about the Armenian nation in new ways. In collaboration with several diaspora academics and other contributors the Paper considers the realities that Armenians around the globe experience. The paper discusses their active involvement in the use of digital technologies to connect and share, as well as details about the opportunities that these virtual connections arise. In the article titled “HyeConnect as a Digital Diaspora,” the platform is established as a space, a digital diaspora and a professional environment that houses Armenians around the globe, facilitating virtual community-building. Following the publishing of the White Paper, a namesake Panel Discussion was organized where we and fellow authors delved into the intricate ways in which the Armenian nation can harness opportunities that the digital space provides.

Abstract:
The digital world has transformed how communications occur for Diasporas displaced from their homelands which results in an active exchange of information. The concept of a digital diaspora is defined as a digital space that is interconnected, networked, and led by a nation as is HyeConnect. The Armenian Diaspora survey reveals many diasporans are willing to support the homeland not only through monetary means but also by providing their services, knowledge, expertise, and connections. HyeConnect was created to be a professional environment where Armenians from all over the world can work together toward Armenia-centric initiatives. The platform emerged when experts from various fields gathered to actualize a space that would connect all Armenians in one professional environment where they could confidently share their initiatives in a trustful manner. Current HyeConnect users are from various communities and the platform remains invitation-based to maintain trust, ensure traceability and encourage initial quality content creation. In conclusion, HyeConnect aims to be the digital space that facilitates multiple initiatives and acts as the digital home for Armenians and their communities.
